Foll's Field Home For Life
Our Horses

Dylan
AKA Houdini, he started life in the hands of the gypsies and by the time he was almost 3 he was tethered and local kids made a game of throwing stones at him and beating him with sticks, he was saved by a well meaning lady who bought him to save him from their cruel treatment but she couldn't afford the vet treatment he needed to sort out the rope halter that had grown in to his head so he was bought by June. Though he has stayed with other people since then he now lives permanently at Folls Field and is loved by all. He is incredibly cheeky but that face lets him get away with anything. Dylan has developed cushings in his old age but with regular blood tests and half a tablet from the vet daily you wouldn't know any different. Due to the cushings he has very few teeth left and so spends his evening supping on a bucket full of soupy feed to help him maintain his weight.

Millie
A cheeky mare full of character who was abandoned in our fields with 3 young colts in 2015 aged around 7 or 8 though we didn't know this at the time as she was in such a bad state she looked nearer 30! She has suffered gut and liver damage due to her bad start in life and this means she is prone to laminitis but we do our best to keep it under control which is why you'll often see her wearing a grazing muzzle which allows her to spend her days grazing alongside the rest of the herd rather than confined to a paddock. She eats a concoction of herbal medicines daily to protect her gut, Millie loves a hack out but gets a little over excited in the schooling field. Not bad for a pony who once wouldntt even let you touch her!

Tay
A slightly grumpy and extremely inquisitive boy who is slightly arthritic but still has plenty of life left. He's bossy and does not enjoy having poorly feet poulticed. He was bullied by the ponies upon his arrival in early 2018 but has now settled in to the herd. He hates kayakers paddling along the river through our field and also hates if anyone of the others goes somewhere without him; he would be in if he had to pay to get out!

Annie
Used to being the baby of the group until Jim arrived but given that he's twice her size she's still really the baby. Best friends with Trooper until he passed away it took her a while to find her place again after he went to rainbow bridge but she's happy anywhere as long as she's fed. A 12.2hh cob with the sweetest nature. She came to us from another charity in late 2019 aged around 7, she has found a forever home with us now though. We are now working with her to get her working and being ridden as she is such a lovely little pony with so much potential though sometimes we do wish she'd be a little less stubborn. Her and her carers have come so far since they both joined us and we don't know what we'd do with out them now!

Lacey
A gorgeous 15.2hh, bay, Welsh x Warmblood with an unfortunate tendency to kick at any thing she deems a threat; that includes us trying to clean infected wounds sadly. She came to us with field mates Flynne and Gypsy when their owner could no longer look after them and all other attempts at rehoming had led to her being forced to have them put to sleep, luckily we were able to take all 3. Before going to this lady in 2008 Lacey had a pretty traumatic past, not limited to a serious shoulder injury resulting in a punctured artery and a bone chip. Within a week of her arrival she had to go on paddock rest due to a badly infected wound causing cellulitis. Upon being released from this confinement the rest of the herd were unsure of her very fast, gallopy celebrations at first but she has become firm friends with Tay and is well on her way to cementing her place as lead mare. Her relationship with little Gypsy is amazing, she protects her from anything whether Gypsy needs it or not!

Flynne
Flynne is a full bred Arab of very high pedigree foaled in 1998. He is very head-shy and just generally a very nervous horse however he is so gentle with it. He has already settled in with the rest of the herd very well and we are hoping with a calm and steady approach will grow in confidence with us. Prior to coming to us he was best pals with Lacey but now the dynamics have changed a little and though they clearly have a good bond Flynne will not be without his best bud Danny. The two live together on the outskirts of the herd quite happily avoiding trouble where possible.

Gypsy
Very little is known about Gypsy prior to her going to the lady who cared for her prior to us other than she was bought from gypsies in 1999 at approximately 4 years old. She stands at about 9 hands and has the thickest coat you have ever seen. In true stubborn Shetland style if she doesn't want to do something, she won't do it and if she does want to do it she will do it in her own time at her own pace, not yours! Luckily she is a chilled out sweetheart if a little slow though with the new herbs we've been giving her to help with her metabolism she's often found galloping around like a looney with the rest of them.

Danny

Danny is a 13.2hh roan Welsh pony and has come from a very loved home but his field mates were picking on him and so he needed a new home to stay. Despite being picked on he soon found his feet here with his new best buddy Flynne. He's even started being ridden by one of our young volunteers. Prior to his previous owners he was with the RSPCA, we don't know much about his past other than that he was possibly a pit pony in a previous life, however, he is a total sweetheart and is a pleasure to have as part of our herd. Like Dylan and Daisy, Danny also has cushings but that doesn't stop his antics.

Jim
Arrived in late 2020 from the Suffolk Punch Trust with his best girlie Libby Belle aged 6. He would follow her to the ends of the Earth without a second thought and this does not always serve him well. In true Suffolk Punch style he has very few brain cells and cannot fathom how to walk through an open gate, he'd much prefer to go through the solid fencing. We're hoping to get him working in the summer months so watch this space. His full posh Sunday name is Easton Bill and he stands at 16.2hh earning him the name Stumpy Jim, nothing stumpy about him really but for a Suffolk he's not the tallest. He is related to our namesake Folly through Wingfield Billy and boy can you see the resemblance, Jim looks just like his uncle Folly; it's in the big, sad eyes.

Maggie
Maggie came to us aged 25 in April 2022. She is a Dales mare with a bolshy nature. Jim took a disliking to her upon her arrival but she took it in her stride, avoided him for a while but is now more than happy to put any of the others in their place. It's only slightly confusing when our vet, who is also called Maggie, comes to visit.

Ted
Ted arrived in early May 2022 just days after Maggie aged 22. In similar circumstances to Danny he has a loving owner who still visits him regularly, he just needed a new place to stay. Slightly besotted by Annie, who doesn't quite appreciate his devotion, he is a lovely boy who just wants to be with his friends.

Daisy
Daisy came to us very skinny in early August 2022. We were unsure of how much we could do to help her and were aware when we agreed to take her on that we may have to have her PTS very soon, however, she has such a sweet nature and a clear will to live that we simply couldn't try our best for her and so far she seems to be doing very well.

Amber
Quite clearly not a horse or a pony however, she's still one of our residents and, like the horses, us hoomans are her slaves. She's a very fancy cat who had a lovely home with lovely owners however she decided to move in to our barn. She was taken home many times but always came back and in now a permanent fixture at Folls Field. A very vocal cat who knows what she wants and that includes a ham cob to herself at 1pm on a Sunday.
