Let's make hay while the sun shines!

So last year (2019) we had 10 of our 14 acres cut for hay, it produced around 750 bales of hay which is amazing, however, most of the team were away ad there was only 3 people and one car available for getting it off the field. The hay was baled on the hottest day EVER which was then followed by a weeks worth of rain that flooded the field. We managed to get in around 250 bales and lost the rest to the floods. We have since spent the last 12 months moving wet, mouldy hay bales off of the field; not fun! Armed with all the knowledge from last year we decided to only harvest 7 acres thinking it would give us maybe 300 bales and that would be plenty for the year. We also timed it so that people weren't on holiday (this was 'helped' by Leicester's local Covid lock down but let's not go in to that). So, Sunday July 26th, plans were made with the farmer for cutting to take place the following Saturday and baling the following weekend. Good stuff, we'd have the car and trailer, no one was on holiday, what could go wrong? Less than 24 hours later the weather forecast changed, the farmer needed to cut the next evening and bale this Sunday in order to beat the rain. The problem? Our man and his car were out of action this particular week! Nightmare! But it takes more than that to stop us, phone calls were made, Facebook pleas were made and then came Sunday. 2 cars, 2 trailers, 26 fabulous hard working people, 1 farmer and his tractor turned up and hay was made! More than that, every single bale of hay was brought in off of the field and stored away under the wonderful, newly built shelters (they're a whole other awesome story of how awesome our team is). I am so proud of how everyone pulled together yesterday and cannot thank them enough, from age 6 to 66, every one was blooming amazing!
