A visit from the dentist

After so many new horsey shaped faces in the past 12 months we didn't know what to expect from a dentist visit, surely there was no way our mischievous herd would all behave in a respectable manner?

Upon my arrival with the dentist I was thrilled to see we'd started off well in that Lee had managed to get all of the horses in to the first field and the weather was being kind for a change. We decided to start off with Trooper as he was the most likely to A)let us catch him, and B) stand still for the dentist. As predicted he was the perfect gentleman. One down, four to go. Annie was next up, did not expect her to behave as she did not like the sound of the equipment when Trooper was being done but she surprised us and, like Trooper, was a little star. The dentist confirmed to us that she was around 7 or 8 and not 4 like some people suspected. Another good set of teeth. Then came Tay, the horse who strops if you breathe too loudly next to him. Again, contrary to what we expected, he behaved himself. One tooth was slightly over grown and could be the reason he's been extra grumpy recently but other than that, another good set of teeth. Horse number 4, Millie, did not want to be caught but after a run around away from the head collar was perfectly fine with a complete stranger putting her hands in her mouth!! Credit to Danielle the dentist, she really was great with them. Upon initial inspection it was though Millie's teeth were not in great shape, however, once a closer look was had, it turned out that it was nothing too drastic at all. 4 out of 5. So far so good. Finally it was Dylan who wanted to be caught even less than Millie did, once caught he then took John for an extra drag across the field just so that we were all 100% aware of his disgust. Sadly, Dylan's teeth were not in great shape at all, he has a front one that is infected and will need removing in the future and 2 pretty much fell out in the dentist's hand. You would think this would stop a pony from eating quite so much but Dylan is not just any pony, he's the greediest most stubborn pony you can find and with that determination he still managed to chew his way through a carrot a tea time. All in all, we felt that it was a very successful visit, something that surprised us all, lets hope this unusually good behaviour continues.
